Making the internet safer than it is

While the internet might seem like a place where people come to socialize and relax, there are also some repercussions of using the internet. The internet also has a tendency of having a negative effect on people who use it because the internet cannot be safe from negativity. You could always read about practicing internet safety on the internet but for that, you would need a reliable internet connection such as Xfinity wifi, which gives you robust internet services so that you could surf as smoothly as possible. However, here are some ways that you can make the internet a safer place not just for yourself but for other people as well.

Try to get a trusted antivirus for yourself

It’s always best to get yourself an antivirus that would protect all of your devices at once. There are different ways in which people attack your devices such as phishing emails and ransomware; therefore, it is necessary that you have an antivirus that would protect your devices from unwanted attacks. It is also important that you save your data so that it is not wiped out. Having protective software would protect you even if you accidentally click on something that could lead to an attack or your data being compromised. Hence, this is an important step that you need to take to make sure that your data and your devices are well protected.

Always take a look at links before you open them

You should always make sure that you check links out before you click on them and open them. You can do this by just hovering on a link to see if the URL matches the link or not. Usually, links have shortened URLs that don’t match with the link or the website and they can turn out to be potentially harming websites. You could also get services from companies such as McAfee that allow you to surf safely and they check every link themselves to see if they are safe to open or not. If they are not, then they automatically block them so that you would be safe and wouldn’t open it. As soon as you see the URL to be different than the link, understand that the link should not be clicked on.

Do not download software attached to emails

During the COVID era, everything shifted online and there was a trend when meetings and conferences were held online. In those cases, it was necessary to download apps and software that could be used to meet up online, such as Google Meet or Zoom. Even today, if you get an email with a file attached that prompts you to download that app or software, do not download it. This could be because that certain app or link could be potentially dangerous. Instead, you should go to the official page for the client, app, or software and download it directly from there because that would be a much safer option and would protect you from unwanted malware and attacks.

Be more mindful of bullying and prevent it

Having access to the internet does not mean that it would be entirely free of negativity and there wouldn’t be trolls and bullies on the internet. In fact, there is an abundance of bullies on the internet who prey on people who are sensitive and do not talk back. It should be your duty to keep the comments section clean and wherever you see someone bullying someone else, be sure to report them so that the social media platform would make sure that they do not repeat their offense again. Too many offenses would also mean that they could possibly have their account permanently terminated.

Try not to spend too much time on the internet

The last thing that you could do to keep your sanity intact is to make sure you are not spending too much time on the internet. You need to make sure you go catch some air and you have some human interactions as well. Being on the internet does not mean that you have a pass that you can only interact with people on the internet; you should also meet up in person because sitting in front of the screen for too long and consuming media that could be negative can also take a toll on your mental health. Therefore, if you wish to take good care of your mental health, you need to make sure that your use of the internet is controlled and that you don’t overuse the internet.

In Conclusion

These are some ways that you can follow to keep yourself safe on the internet. While you are doing that for yourself, you need to make sure that you do the same for other people as well because as a community, we need to ensure that the internet is a safe space and that everyone can use it without any harm or fear.
