Netflix’s Issue With Live Streaming

What Really Went On

In the streaming business, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+ and some others have achieved some success in live-streaming events. However, for Netflix, live-streaming has always been the Achilles’ heel. They are not in the habit to live stream events. Till now, they have live-streamed only one event on the 4th of March.  The show was Chris Rock: Selective Outrage. In fact, that live stream ran smoothly.

The only argument that Netflix offered about their resistance against live streaming is the high cost of sports live streaming. However, as the streaming platform started to lose subscribers in 2022, it started to experiment with live streaming. The recent failure with the reunion event seems to be in tune with the ongoing scenario of Netflix.
