There is an array of difficult tasks and challenges that we must deal with and overcome at work. When obstacles arise, it is easy to get overwhelmed and lose track. However, what this article aims to demonstrate is that you do not have to be weighed down. Instead, you can find ways to deal with those difficult tasks and become more resilient. 1. Be positive 

While this is often easier said than done, having a positive attitude is one of the first steps to dealing with difficult tasks, as your attitude affects everything else. There are many benefits of having a positive attitude which include improving your health, building resilience, improving work efficiency, and developing healthy relationships. So, one of the first things you must do is change your mindset from negative to positive. Once you have done that, you will have stronger foundations to build on to take the next steps. 

2. Ask for help 

If you are ever struggling, it is always advised to ask for help because you do not have to do everything alone. So, when it comes to difficult tasks such as terminating employees, get as much help and support as you can to guide you through the process. There are many reasons why you should ask for help, such as:

  • Creating opportunities to learn and share – when asking for help, you give others the opportunity to express their talent and knowledge, which is not only beneficial for them but for you too.
  • Strengthen trust between colleagues – asking for support can build trust! 
  • Being vulnerable is a strength – contrary to popular belief, being vulnerable and opening yourself up to others when you are struggling is not a weakness but a strength as it allows us to be our authentic selves. 

3. Get out of work! 

Do not be confused or alarmed; getting out of work doesn’t mean quitting, but rather to give yourself some time and space. So, if you are feeling stressed or experiencing a difficult task at work that is overwhelming you, then be sure to take some time out. This could simply be by going for a walk or meeting a friend or colleague at lunch to get some fresh air and talk if that is what you want to do. Whatever your method of self-care is, it is important that you take care of yourself and do not stay too long in an environment that is toxic, stressful, and overwhelming. 

4. Talk to someone 

Another helpful thing that you can do to deal with difficult tasks is to simply talk to someone. As the old saying goes, a problem shared is a problem halved. You do not necessarily have to talk about the problem in question with someone else if this is too triggering. However, talking, even about anything seemingly meaningless, can help to lighten the mood and get your mind thinking about something else, something more positive.
