Construction Site

If you are the owner of a construction company or you’re working as a site manager, it is your job to make sure that you have all the necessary tools and equipment in place. You’ll also need to follow strict health and safety procedures to keep your workers safe on site. This is why it’s important to make sure that you have the following construction site essentials to help make your job easier and keep your teams happy and healthy throughout the project.

Accident Book

Hopefully, you will not have to use your accident book throughout construction, but chances are at least one or two minor incidents will occur. Construction sites are hazardous places, and even with everyone following the safety rules, accidents can happen. This is why all sites need to have a logbook for accidents to help them keep a record of every incident. It will come in handy in case a lawsuit is initiated or you need to make an insurance claim.

First Aid Kit

First aid kits should be in every workspace, but in an environment like a construction site, they are even more essential. Again, hopefully, you won’t need to use this kit very often, and only for minor injuries like small cuts or scrapes. However, having a fully equipped first aid kit can help with a variety of minor to mild injuries on site. Keep this in the site office and make sure it is always fully stocked.

Safe Access Platforms

When work moves above the ground floor level in construction, your workers must have safe and secure access platforms to use to reach those higher levels in the building. You can see some excellent examples of secure access platforms at easi-dec.co.uk, as well as information on training for staff who will need to use them. You should also think about whether or not your teams will need safety harnesses for parts of the construction work and make sure these are on-site, too.

Fire Extinguisher and Extra PPE

Your workers will likely have PPE that they own and bring from home, particularly if they have been working in construction for a long time. However, it is always wise to have spare PPE in the site office in case someone forgets something, or you need to show visitors around the site if they want to monitor the progress your team is making. You should also make sure you have fire extinguishers on-site in case there is an emergency. Machinery and tools can overheat or grind on stone and metal, causing sparks, which can then risk a fire. You should also make it clear that the construction site is a strict no-smoking zone, and workers who do want to have a cigarette need to leave the site to do this.

There are many other essentials you will need to have on-site as a manager, but all of the above are great places to start on your list to help keep your workers safe and the project running smoothly.
