4 Ways to Manage Your Receding Hairline

The moment you start to notice your hairline is receding is a disconcerting experience. It causes you to question what has gone wrong – is it stress? A bad diet? Just simple genetics?

Well, the first thing you need to know is that a receding hairline is completely natural and to be expected with age. The receding process starts as early as 19 years old, so don’t be mistaken for thinking this is only an issue if you’re middle-aged.

Thankfully, it really doesn’t have to be the end of the world. In fact, one of the best ways to deal with your receding hairline is to stay calm and embrace it. Stressing and tampering with your hair constantly will only aggravate it, which is the last thing you need. Instead, consider these four ways you can manage your receding hairline.

Use a better shampoo

Shampoo is one of the most overlooked factors in receding hairlines and hair health in general. Many people mistakenly believe that hair can never be too clean and that rubbing shampoo into their scalp every day will only make it stronger. While everyone’s hair responds differently depending on which shampoo you use, it’s key to note that over-washing your hair will only dry it out and even begin the thinning process.

This is because your hair contains an abundance of natural oils. It’s designed to maintain itself without the help of modern (and often harsh) shampoos, so while you should always wash your hair, just space it out.

If you normally wash your hair every day, give it a rest for a few days next time.

Another way to improve the quality of your hair is to use organic, scalp-friendly shampoo. Investing in better quality shampoo is one of the best ways you can prevent premature thinning.

Seek professional help

There’s no way around it. If you are worried about your receding hairline and it is beginning to affect your daily life, then it is worth seeking professional help. While the first step should always be to see a doctor, why not consider booking an appointment with a hair transplant clinic, too?

Hair transplants are often thought of as an extreme way to regain your hairline, but this is not the case. In fact, it is increasingly popular and an effective way to manage your receding hairline.

Change your diet

You are what you eat. It might be a cliche, but when it comes to the health of your hair, it is absolutely true. For instance, antioxidants – such as spinach, blueberries, and walnuts – reduce the oxidative stress that thins your hair.

Make sure you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals too, which will help rebalance your immune system and increase the strength of your hair.

Alter your preening regime

You’d be amazed at how many people worsen their receding hairline with a bad daily hair care routine. You already know you may be using too much shampoo, but it doesn’t stop there.

If you are using hair products to slick your hair straight back every day, you could be aggravating your hairline and causing it to recede. This is not to say you can’t style your hair like this, but give your hair a break. Go without aggressively slicking your hair back a few days to let it breathe and recover.

If you ruffle your hair with a towel after a shower, then it could also be hurting your hair. Make sure you are gentle and just press the water out, rather than ripping hair out with a brisk rub. The same goes for blow-drying. Hold the dryer further away from your hair to prevent it from burning, drying, and damaging your scalp.
