So, before we begin our list of the top Game of Thrones deaths, we must tell you that the following list will most certainly have a lot of spoilers. Therefore, in case you haven’t watched all the seasons of Game of Thrones, we strictly advise you to not go further. However, if you have already watched all the seasons and you are now on a nostalgic trip to the best moments of GoT, then of course, go through this article. So, without further waiting, look at the top deaths in Game of Thrones (SPOILERS).

1. Viserys Targaryen

Viserys Targaryen

The rawness and brutality that the GoT is known for couldn’t be better portrayed than the death of Viserys Targaryen. A person who wants to wear the crown more than anything, does, ultimately wears it. However, it becomes his own demise. It was Khal Drogo who brought about the end of Viserys in the most gruesome way possible. So, Visery’s annoyance got to Khal, and so, he poured molten gold over his head. It was a horrific way to coronate someone and say, ‘A Crown for a King’.

2. Robert Baratheon

Robert Baratheon

Many people might argue but the death of Robert Baratheon was one of the integral moments in the story. What followed after was a reason for this death. So, King Robert Baratheon’s murder was a planned one. It was his wife, Cersei, who convinced Lancel Lannister to serve the king too much wine. The drunk king was eventually gored by a wild boar on a hunting trip.

3. Ned Stark

Ned Stark

If you truly want to see despair, then the death of Ned Stark was one of those moments. To see one of the central characters die like that was one of the highlights of the GoT. In fact, his own children were present to witness the death of their father. According to the sources, he was executed by the Lannisters on false charges. This public execution of Ned Stark still haunts many fans of the Game of Thrones.

So, it was the first signal to the public that GoT is not an average run-of-the-mill show at all. It, most certainly, diverts from other mainstream shows. It’s a show that shows no mercy, and the characters don’t matter if they are central or not, don’t have any plot armor to their rescue.

4. Khal Drogo

Khal Drogo

In the 10th episode of the 1st season, the death of Khal Drogo was not something that none of us expected. Truth be told, he deserved more in the story and one could feel that his stay was cut short. However, his death was one of the key moments in the story as his death was a moment of character build-up for Danaerys.

5. Renly Baratheon

Renly Baratheon

So, in the 2nd season’s 5th episode, the death of Renly Baratheon still strikes us as one of the integral moments in the story. One could argue that he could somehow bring stability to the Kingdom. However, a shadow demon killed him.

4. Pyat Pree

Pyat Pree

In the 10th episode of season 2, Pyat Pree, a schemer wanted to steal the dragons of Dany. Despite being successful, the dragons burned him down.

5. The Death of The First White Walker

The Death of The First White Walker

So, the death of the first white walker was a significant moment in the GoT. It was a crucial discovery that you could actually kill those ice monsters or the White Walkers. Moreover, it was also a moment of triumph for Sam. He managed to kill a White Walker with a dragon glass blade while trying to save Gilly and her newborn baby, in the 3rd Season’s 8th episode.

6. Talisha, Robb, & Catelyn Stark

Season 3, Episode 9 of GoT is famous as one of the most shocking episodes ever in the history of TV shows. So, the episode, titled ‘Red Wedding’ was a death galore. Nobody could actually foresee that outrageous & gory outcome. Talisha Stark, the bride of Robb Stark was pregnant and she was repeatedly stabbed in the belly, and that too, in front of her husband Robb Stark.

Robb too lost his life in this episode. What’s tragic is, he was a formidable leader, but he looked so helpless. Treachery was at its peak as Robb Stark’s mother’s throat was also slit in that same episode. We have to say, it was the peak moment of the brutality that the GoT is so famous for.

7. Joffrey Baratheon

Joffrey Baratheon

So, the death of Joffrey Baratheon in Episode 2 of the 4th season was a ‘sweet’ moment for many. Someone poisoned him (it was most definitely not Tyrion). His upbringing and innate worldview made him the person that he was. However, fans didn’t show any remorse for the death of such a despicable character.

8. Oberyn Martell

Oberyn Martell

So, the 8th episode in the 4th season of GoT also saw the death of a very famous character, Oberyn. In a duel with Gregor, he lost, and then Gregor mauled him and savagely crushed his eyes and head in front of a giant crowd.

9. Ygrette

Ygrette

The death of Ygrette was a very sad moment in the GoT. She and John Snow developed a romantic relationship for each other in the show. Moreover, what’s worse is, it was the young Olly who, mistakenly, shot Ygrette.

10. Tywin Lannister

So, fans of Game of Thrones will definitely agree that the death of Tywin Lannister was a debatable moment in the show. Moreover, it was Tyrion, who shot Twyin with a Crossbow while Tywin, his father, sat on the toilet.

11. Shireen Baratheon

Shireen Baratheon

Having blind faith in something absolutely makes us inhuman. This is something that GoT portrayed with the death of Shireen. Stannis Baratheon wasn’t even remorseful for killing his only daughter. We have to say, that little Shireen Baratheon met a tragic & gruesome end to her character. Stannis & Melisandre simply burned her alive as a ‘sacrifice’ to the Lord of Light. Though it was a twisted idea of Melisandre, the blind faith that Stannis showed, and his unflinching resolve to see to its end was quite bone-chilling for sure.

12. Stannis Baratheon

Stannis Baratheon

The death of Stannis Baratheon was once again, a pleasant feeling to all the fans of GoT. Especially after the way he allowed the death of his daughter in the most gruesome way possible, his death did provide a moment of sweetness. So, it was Brienne of Tarth, who, in the 10th episode of the 5th season beheaded Stannis.

13. Hodor

Hodor

The Door was one of the most tragic episodes for sure in the GoT. The gentle Hodor’s death on the 5th episode of Season 6 still makes us feel extremely sad.

14. Walder Fey

Walder Fey

Arya Stark took the revenge of the Red Wedding in an exemplary fashion. She went full assassin mode as she slit the throat of Walder Frey. There’s no doubt about the fact that it was an extremely satisfying death.

15. Littlefinger

Littlefinger

The ‘mentalist’ Littlefinger’s demise at the hand of the Stark sisters was very good writing. So, Littlefinger had his own schemes, his own ways of dealing with problems. As a mentalist, he was a pretty decent one as well. In fact, he was one of the major characters of Game of Thrones. So, it was Arya Stark once again who slit his throat. We have to say, it was a fitting end to his character in the story.

16. Night King

Night King

After killing Theon Greyjoy, the Night King or the leader of the White Walker advanced to Bran to claim the victory. However, Arya Stark, once again, went full assassin mode, as she leaped out of nowhere to plunge the deadly dagger into the icy body of the Night King. Arya’s blow put an end to the greatest threat to the Westeros.

17. Missandei

Missandei

Following Euron’s defeat, Cersei captured Missandei. In the 4th episode of the last and the 8th season, Cersei ordered the beheading of Missandei. So, this particular moment broke Dany and she ‘burned it all’.

18. Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys Targaryen

Even though we could include the death of Jamie Lannister and Cersei in this list of Game of Thrones deaths, Dany’s death was one of the most significant parts of the entire story. Overcome by madness, Dany burned it all down. Of course, it had to be John Snow to put an end to it all, as he embraced her and pierced the fatal dagger. s
