5 Tips on How to Get the Perfect Lawn

Lawns are not just cosmetic, they can also keep the air clean by trapping airborne pollutants. Here are a few tips on how to take care of them!

  1. Water In the Morning

The best time to water your lawn is in the morning. That way, the grass will be hydrated by the time the sun comes up.

Avoid watering in the afternoon as the water will evaporate quickly. Similarly, you don’t want to water the lawn at night as it can lead to excess moisture on the blades, which can give rise to fungus and mold.

  1. Mow the Lawn Regularly

It’s important that you mow your lawn regularly—at least once a week in the summer and once every two weeks during the other seasons. That will encourage the roots to spread so that they’ll block out weeds.

It is not necessary to buy a big lawn mower, a simple weed eater would be more than enough. There is plenty of choice in this article.

Don’t want to do it yourself? You can always hire a professional such as Pacific Lawn Maintenance.

  1. Remove Weeds

Weeds such as plantains and dandelions can smother the grass and inhibit growth. Fortunately, they are fairly easy to remove with a hand trowel.

Or if you want, you can weaken them by raking before you mow. That will lift them up into the blades, which will kill them over time.

If possible, try to avoid chemical weedkillers.

  1. Aerate the Lawn

Aerate your lawn once or twice a year. You can do this by pushing a garden fork into the soil—this will open it up, allowing the roots to breathe.

That way, you won’t have to worry about the ground being compacted, which can prevent your grass from growing properly.

  1. Feed Your Lawn

Don’t forget to feed your lawn. More specifically, you want to apply fertilizer in mid to late April, when the grass is starting to green up.

From there, you can feed it again in late spring, in late summer, and then again in the fall, before winter arrives.
