Super Bowl LXI favorites: Seahawks vs. Rams

The dust has barely settled on Super Bowl LX… and already thoughts are turning to the 2027 edition of the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The February showpiece will be talked about for generations; not least because of the underdog stories behind the two combatants.

The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots were priced at +6000 and +8000 respectively just to make it to Super Sunday before the start of the 2025-26 season. And yet they upset the odds, quite literally, to form one of the most unexpected Super Bowl games in many a year.

However, the sportsbooks are rather more bullish about their respective chances in 2026-27…

A Repeat Dose?

The latest NFL odds have the Seahawks installed as the +750 favorites to successfully retain the Vince Lombardi trophy.

However, those familiar with betting on the Super Bowl will know that only one franchise – the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023 and 2024 – has been able to defend their title in the past two decades.

So the wagering fraternity may look elsewhere for their selections, with the Los Angeles Rams (+800), Buffalo Bills (+1200), and the Baltimore Ravens (+1200) perhaps amongst the most likely contenders.

It takes an extraordinary team to win back-to-back Super Bowls, and the jury is out on whether Seattle have truly got what it takes.

Make no mistake, their defensive unit has been generational. But every other franchise now has the off-season to study the video, analyse the data, and come up with ways to break through their stout rearguard.

Can Kenneth Walker repeat his Super Bowl LX heroics? He became the first running back in more than 25 years to win the MVP award, crashing through for 135 yards, while Sam Darnold produced the performance of his career at the sprightly age of 28.

Whether that can be replicated in 2026-27 remains to be seen, although nobody could begrudge Seattle the happy ending to their incredible underdog story.

Rams Raiding

The Los Angeles Rams are one of those franchises with a happy knack for going deep into the postseason shake up.

They lost in Super Bowl LIII, won Super Bowl LVI, and in the past decade have missed out on the playoffs just twice.

Defeat in the NFC Championship game to the Seahawks earlier this year will have hurt, but there’s a general feeling that the Rams may just come out of the campaign stronger for the experience.

Despite his advancing years, Matthew Stafford led the way in the NFL in 2025-26 for passing yards and touchdowns – even at the age of 38, he’ll be given another spin next season.

The Rams’ offense is nicely balanced, with the likes of Davante Adams and Kyren Williams leading the receiving and rushing divisions, while the defensive department is solid enough to mount a Super Bowl challenge.

Factor in a roster that is unlikely to change too much, two first-round picks in the NFL Draft, and the fact that Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for their SoFi Stadium home, the Rams are clearly an appetizing proposition for renewed success.
