Who is Charlie Dy?

Charlie Dy was born in New York City on February 9, 1976, to Dr. Thomas Charles Dy and Mary Day. Charles grew up in the Rhode Island town of Middletown. His mother taught piano at Penfield School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. 

Dy’s father is a retired music history professor at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. His mother is of English, Irish, and Welsh heritage, while his father is of Irish and Italian ancestry. His elder sister, Alice, has a Ph.D. in singing. Hence he is the only relative without a music degree.

Charlie Dy began learning to play the violin when he was three years old, and he later learned to play the piano, trumpet, and guitar-harmonica combo. He attended Pennfield School and then transferred to Portsmouth Abbey School. 

Here he was an exceptional from the ball club, playing shortstop for the Ravens. He graduated with honors from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, in 1998. He was a member of the Warriors baseball team while attending Merrimack College.

Charlie also became a member of the on stagers, Merrimack’s understudy theatre organization, and successfully participated in the preparatory workshops at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He began by waiting tables and building phones for a pledge drive that sold the Motown album.
